Communication is the act of giving, receiving, and sharing information — in other words, talking or writing, and listening or reading. Good communicators listen carefully, speak or write clearly, and respect different opinions.

What will children learn?

In these lessons students will engage in fun games that aim to identify and develop essential communications skills that can last a lifetime. The nature of the games are designed to seamlessly develop the students’ communication skills whilst having fun with their peers. 

The lessons are centred around the 8 fundamentals of communication (Stanfield 2017): 

  1. Empathy;
  2. Conversation skills;
  3. Established listening and speaking procedures;
  4. Respectful vocabulary;
  5. The power of the pause;
  6. Practice speaking and listening in natural settings;
  7. Introspection;
  8. Turn-taking.
